El cortometraje chileno Bestia, del director Hugo Covarrubias, consiguió una nominación al Oscar 2022. Está inspirado en la historia de la agente de la DINA Íngrid Olderöck, quien se hizo tristemente célebre por por las torturas y vejámenes cometidos en el centro de detención Venda Sexy durante la dictadura cívico militar.

El filme de aproximadamente 15 minutos está realizado con uso de la técnica del stop motion y surge de un fallido proyecto televisivo que buscaba rescatar relatos de diversas figuras de la historia chilena.

Este año, además, se copó la cuota de diez películas nominadas al Oscar en la categoría de Mejor Película. Gran parte de ellas pasaron o están en cartelera o se encuentran disponibles en algún streaming. Cintas que ya estaban en la lista de predicciones, como El poder del perro o West Side Story, deberán competir con apuestas como No mires arriba, Duna y El callejón de las almas perdidas. En tanto Spencer de Pablo Larraín logró posicionar a Kristen Stewart en la carrera como mejor actriz del año.
